All content and code for DSG WordPress pages can be found in the dsg-test repository on the DSG GitHub.

Special Notes

If the text above the event page needs to be edited, that text is not stored in a regular page. Instead, go to "Settings" under the "Events" option on the left-hand admin panel. Then, click the display tab. Under "advanced template settings" on this tab, it lets you display text before the event content.

Desired Website Improvements

  • Fix broken Events listings (which don't show the content of the event entry); Dave DeCamp may be working on this
  • Fix link to Podio contact form
  • Remove gray bar below navigation bar
  • Header image needs to link to DSG home instead of [current page URL]/index.php
  • Generally more clean theme (similar to DSC, Academic Tech Services, Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning Through Research websites)
  • More images (people working on projects, project intake meetings, computer lab, project presentations, events)
  • Make typography better?
  • The Resources page needs to be reviewed (new resources need to be added? page needs to be reordered? Learn section?)


These may already have been done:

  • Better bullet points (properly centered on line, circles or boxes instead of arrows)
  • Better sidebar (make light gray/white instead of red/dark gray, make header optional)
  • Different colored links (red instead of blue)
  • Consider changing font, line spacing (more like DSC website, or use same font as postcards)
  • More customization allowed for tables or better default tables
  • Remove the DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP GROUP header (is now redundant with the appropriate header image)

Done:

  • Nice cycling news feed on front page with large images (something like NULab site)
  • Add images to front page in some appropriate way
  • DRS Project Toolkit CFP

  • Move the Staff and FAQ pages from the main navigation to an About subpage

  • Sub navigation for the Projects pages should include:
  • Active Projects
    • DSG projects will have title, brief description, and a link to a full description page on the DSG site.
    • Toolkit sites will have a title, description, link to the Toolkit site, and visual clue (badge or flag) to indicate that it is a Toolkit project
  • Become a DSG Project
  • Project Resources (Current Project Resources, Active Project Resources, just Project Resources?)
    • Service and installation requests
    • Documentation (move Toolkit documentation here)
    • Policies
    • Annual checkin form?
