Grouper Requirements

To manage groups in Grouper you will need:

  • a myNEU login
  • the link to Grouper
  • admin privileges for the group or folder you would like to modify

Grouper naming and nesting conventions

Folders and groups should be organized hierarchically. Follow the DRS/Northeastern graph to create new folders and groups. For example, to create a new group for a research group in the Department of English, first make sure there is a folder for the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and a folder for the Department of English, then create a research group in the Department of English folder.

Every Grouper folder and group is assigned a name and an ID. Grouper names and IDs should:

  • be descriptive and succinct
  • be lower case
  • use underscores between words

See a the Grouper spreadsheet for a list of active Grouper groups and folders.

Troubleshooting Grouper Issues

What do I do when I can't find a user in Grouper?

If you've searched every variation possible but still cannot find a user, confirm that the user has a NUNET account. If the user does have a NUNET account, or if you encounter errors, submit a help tick with IS: https://northeastern.service-now.com/

Why can't I add users or create new folders?

You may not have the appropriate privileges to create folders or add users. Contact the group or folder's admin to request admin privileges.
