Requirements for Managing Communities

You must have admin privileges in the DRS to manage communities in the DRS.

Creating Communities

Go to the DRS Admin page

Click Manage Communities

Click Create new community

Parent Community: Enter and select the name of the parent community. If the desire parent community does not exist, create that community first.

Supply the community name, and optionally a description of that community.

Select the appropriate permission, either public or private.

Add a thumbnail for the community, if available.

If this community grants theses or dissertations, click the Include Theses and Dissertations Folder box

Click Submit

Editing Communities titles and descriptions

Go to the DRS Admin page

Click Manage Communities

Find the community you would like to edit

Click Edit

Make the desired changes and click the first Submit button

Moving Communities

Before you move the community you will want to gather the appropriate PIDs:

  • PID for the community you want to move
  • PID for the new parent community

Go to the Fedora admin page

Under the Object menu enter the community PID in the Open Object PID search box and click Open

Moving a community requires changing the parent PID in two locations: the RELS-EXT and the properties datastreams

  • Double click the RELS-EXT datastream and click Edit Content

In the <drs:hasAffiliation> field, change the PID value in the rdf:resource attribute to the new parent community PID

Click Save Changes

  • Double click the properties datastream and click Edit Content

Change the value of the <parent_id> field from the old parent community PID to the new parent community PID

Click Save Changes

Removing Communities

Go to the DRS Admin page

Click Manage Communities

Find the community you would like to remove

Click Destroy
