Omeka, Open Journal Systems, and WordPress Installation Policies and User Agreement

The Digital Scholarship Group of the Northeastern University Libraries (“DSG”) are pleased to offer the installation of and sustained support for

__________________________________________________________ (“Project”)

by serving as the electronic distributor (?) for

__________________________________________________________ (“Service”).

Upon the submission of a service request for the installation of an instance of the Service listed above, the parties agree to the following:

A. General Policies

  1. There shall be no charge for standard installation services or software provided by the DSG.
  2. When a Project is requesting a new instances of Omeka, OJS, or WordPress from the DSG, please allow two weeks for the installation of the Service.
  3. All instances of Omeka, OJS, and WordPress provided by the DSG come with a pre-installed set of plugins (TBD).
  4. If a Project anticipates needing additional plugins to support the goals of their research, the DSG must be informed in order to access training and support for these additional plugins. The DSG may or may not provide support for additional plugins.
  5. Back-up of all content will be provided whenever it is needed, free of charge.
  6. Each Project must have a separate, self-contained instance.
  7. The Service administrator is not required to have a sponsored account at Northeastern University unless direct server access is required.
  8. Development servers for the Service will not be provided for DSG-supported instances of Omeka, OJS, or WordPress. All development work for installations can be performed in Vagrant or xAMP.
  9. All data will be stored on a remote disk.

B. For Omeka:

  1. A designated site administrator is required for all DSG Omeka instances. Administrators will have access to the following features:
    • Adding new users
    • Changing permissions for users
    • Changing privacy settings
    • Activating themes
  2. Administrators are required to either attend a tutorial or complete a self-guided tutorial for Omeka. The DSG can provide supplementary guidance and support but does not offer Omeka specific tutorials.
  3. The URL for your Omeka instance must be chosen carefully, as it cannot be changed later.
  4. Special arrangements will be made if Neatline is required.

C. For Open Journal Systems:

  1. Potential OJS users are required to agree to the University Libraries’ OJS Memorandum of Understanding in addition to the general policies above prior to receiving an OJS instance.

D. For WordPress:

  1. WordPress instances supported by the DSG will only be available to projects currently affiliated with the DSG.
  2. The intended use of a DSG supported WordPress instance must be consistent with the DSG’s mission.
  3. For projects seeking WordPress instances that are not consistent with the DSG’s mission should be referred to ITS or other appropriate department that offers WordPress installation services.
  4. A designated site administrator is required for all DSG WordPress instances. Administrators will have access to the following features:

  5. WordPress administrators are required to either attend a tutorial for WordPress or complete a self-guided tutorial for WordPress. The DSG can provide supplementary guidance and support but does not offer WordPress specific tutorials.

Policies for these services are subject to change as the DSG continues to develop. The designated administrators for these services will be notified in the event that a change in these policies will affect their particular instance.
