• Today we discussed TEI customization, its significance, and what it means for Charon.
• Julia gave a small background on TEI customization.
• Julia and Ashley discussed the pros and cons of a TEI customization - it can be great for a single project but it makes hosting multiple projects on a platform like Charon difficult.
• Having multiple projects say the same things in varying language makes it difficult for us about the way project vocabularies interact, but it’s something we have to deal with when assisting them maintain their ecology.
• This will be a problem for Charon sooner rather than later, as projects like the ECDA take customization to be a core part of their projects.
• This deliberate problemitization of TEI is a fertile ground for scholarship in the field, but it also makes things technically sticky.
• Discussion about whether to offer a few base style sheets for the TEI, and other possible solutions.
