Training

We had a couple more people sign up for mini-training discussions. So, we now have:

Stage Directions

We confirmed the decision to add three new values to describe stage directions. These are "remains", "present", and "prop". We also decided to allow for multiple values instead of using "mixed" and will be updating our encoding accordingly. We will be using a new attribute for this encoding, @kind instead of @type, because it's an established practice that @type is limited to one value. Syd has already updated the textbase and schema to reflect this change. The internal documentation has been updated as well.

To make it easier to find and update the old "mixed" stage directions, Syd has changed them to "UNKNOWN"—I created a project on the Projects Tracking board and Michael offered to take an initial stab at fixing these. Full directions are on the Trello card; if you're interested in working on this, just email me and I'll get you set up.

Transposed Paragraph

Nicole brought in an example from the 1708 Ladies Diary in which the second half of a paragraph had been transposed to appear after the beginning of the subsequent division. We sketched out an initial way of handling this, using <transpose>, but didn't have time to explore other options so we haven't yet finalized this as a solution. We added:

       </listTranspose>

in the <profileDesc> and we also used @next and @prev to link up the two halves of the paragraph that were interrupted by the beginning of the new division. If you want to see the full details, we checked in the provisional encoding and you can see it in various.ladiesdiary1708.xml We're going to revisit this next week to make sure it still seems sensible and to see if any other options have come up in the meantime.
